Principal’s Message

November 3rd 2020

Dear Parents & Guardians,

We are delighted to have safely passed the first major milestone of the school year (the Halloween mid-term break). Thanks to everybody’s hard work, vigilance & co-operation, we have managed to keep the pupils & staff safe from the worst effects of Covid-19. Thankfully, the numbers appear to be heading in the right direction again nationally & we urge everybody in the school community to continue to ‘do the right thing’. It is very gratifying to see the pupils taking all necessary precautions by hand-washing, sanitizing & maintaining appropriate distancing throughout the school day. These simple steps have quickly become part of the daily routine & our pupils should be commended for keeping themselves & each other safe. I would also like to acknowledge parents & guardians for wearing masks & maintaining social distance at drop-off & collection times. Please continue to keep the school informed & to follow the appropriate Public Health advice in the event of any suspected or confirmed cases of the virus. If you have any doubts or concerns, please keep your child at home & contact your GP for advice & direction.

The school has not been using any of the products that were withdrawn from the Department of Education approved list recently. We are continually working hard at keeping the school clean & safe for our pupils. This includes keeping the classrooms well ventilated during the day. As the weather grows colder, it may be advisable for pupils to wear an extra layer under their uniform or perhaps have a light but warm fleece (all the better if the colours were in keeping with the uniform).

Parent-Teacher meetings for all classes will take place in mid-to-late January, as opposed to November this year. This is to allow for a longer settling-in period for pupils & to make up for time missed before the summer. By leaving the meetings until then, the teachers will be able to more accurately appraise pupils’ progress. Unfortunately, due to current restrictions, we will not be in a position to hold face-to-face PT meetings this year. Consultations are likely to be via pre-arranged telephone calls. We will provide more detail closer to the time.

Thank you for your continued co-operation & support.

Le meas,

Brian Mullins
